"My project has direct correlation to my research paper because I wanted to have a better understanding of why these people are in this current situation in life. Through my research i have realized that many people go through this hardship because their situation is to hard to overcome or they have been in this position because it was beyond their control. Research goes to explain how people who end up being homeless or relying on shelters to stay warm are there because the barriers to overcome homelessness are far greater that remaining homeless.” In a 2008 survey performed by the U.S. Conference of Mayors, 25 cities were asked for the three largest causes of homelessness in their communities. Mental illness was the third largest cause of homelessness for single adults (mentioned by 48% of cities).”(National Coalition for Homeless,2009). This quote shows that mental health takes a toll on these individuals and is a big reason why people in their community not only become homeless but continue the cycle of homelessness for the rest of their lives. This quote in particular really showed me through the project that we might not know everything they are fighting on a daily basis. Going through with this project and showing these people that someone out there does care and is not there to criticize them for being on this particular path in life might help change some of the people's mindsets. Through these events that i have arranged i have continuously thought that these people can use your help and they are going through a lot more that you are and it kind of makes you realize your problems are not that big.
