My job shadow took place at a private doctors office where he is a primary care physician in weathers field. The primary care doctors name was Dr Barochia of Barochia internal medicine. Going into the job shadow I knew I wanted to be in the medical field but I wanted to know more about what someone would do in their own private practice or how it was to be the boss of your own practice and make it successful.I was kind of excited to meet someone who had went through all the obstacles I am hoping to go through in order to be in a similar position as him. The job shadow ended up doing great he was a really nice young guy who seemed to know a lot but at the same time came across as approachable regardless of how smart he was. Barochia and i spent the day checking on patients, looking at their medical records and finding out ways to help the patient. He would ask me what I thought about certain situation patients were in and I would tell him what i thought could be going on and by his surprise I was right a few time on their problems. This job shadow was by far one of the best things I could have asked for going into college with the background of what I will face in the real world. He showed me so much about my future if this is what I really want to do and how it can go a long way for me in life by helping people. His situation was a little different because in India they only have to go to school for 4 years and they are a doctor compared to how in the us doctors are usually in school anywhere for 8-12 years after high school. But in all he showed me that he is someone who took his career very serious and would want someone like me to pay attention to the next few decisions I make over the years because they can hurt or help in the long run. Through our conversations he explained how volunteering and getting the hands on experience is important so you are one step ahead of your peers, and that i should focus a lot on where i want to go for med school so i can stay as focused because a lot of young med student give up due to their lack of focus and dedication.
